OTE, Hellenic Telecommunications Organization S.A.

The Hellenic Telecommunications Organisation S.A. (OTE), member of the Deutsche Telekom (DT) Group of Companies, is the incumbent telecommunications operator in Greece. OTE offers its customers a wide range of technologically advanced services such as high-speed data communications, mobile telephony, internet access, infrastructure provision, multimedia services, leased lines, maritime and satellite communications, ICT services and directories. OTE’s vision is to rank among the largest telecommunications companies in Europe, and through its international investments (mainly in the area of South-Eastern Europe), now addresses a potential customer base of 60 million people, making OTE the largest telecommunications provider in SE Europe. OTE’s R&D Department is involved in almost all technological and infrastructural issues and is an active participant in many EU and international collaborative projects. OTE’s current R&D activities include broadband technologies and services, next generation network architectures, infrastructure development etc., following to the actual challenges for the development of a fully competitive network infrastructure & a portfolio of innovative services/facilities.

Profile of key persons:

  • George Agapiou (male) is a telecommunications engineer, holding a PhD from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He is the head of the Core Network Testing Lab at OTE SA. He has participated in various FP6, FP7, IST, STREP, Eurescom and e-ten projects and has published more than 100 papers in scientific journals and proceedings and is a CD member of the FITCE Association. His research interests include next generation wired and wireless access networks, applications in optical networks and novel broadband technologies and services. He is a coauthor of the book next generation access networks published by klidarithmos in 2010 in Greece and coauthor of the book next generation wireless communications using radio over fiber published by John Wiley in October 2012.
  • Tilemachos Doukoglou (male) is currently the head of OTE’s Laboratories for New Technologies Test & Evaluation (Fixed & Mobile). He works for OTE since 1996. In the past he has been the FTTx Project Manager (during the years 2004 & 2005) and the head of the Access Network Technologies Laboratory. He participated in a large number of EU funded research programs, and was a member of the team responsible for the design and implementation of OTE’s xDSL/FTTx network. Before that he worked at Optimal robotics (Montreal-Canada) and as a Post-Doctoral Research Engineer in the Biorobotics Laboratory (of Dr. Ian W. Hunter – http://biorobotics.mit.edu) of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Dr. Doukoglou has a PhD. (1995) and Master (M.Eng. 1989 ) Degrees in Electrical and Biomedical Engineering from McGill University of Montreal, Canada (www.mcgill.ca), and a Diploma in Electrical Engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Greece. He is the author of numerous journal and conference publications. His research interests include optical network technologies.
